Recommandation about installation

Hi everyone,

I am currently contemplating migrating from my SmartThings setup to Home Assistant. I would still keep SmartThings as the hub connection to my ZigBee and Z-Wave device but the brain would be HomeAssistant. Would that make sense or does anyone sees troubles in the future with that kind of setup?

Also, I am looking for recommendation about Home Assistant setup itself. I am running a 3 hosts vSphere VSAN cluster at home, so I will be installing it there for redundancy purpose. Question, what is the best way to install (and, most importantly, update/maintain!) this in a VM? Should I go with an Ubuntu or CentOS base install with docker and then install HomeAssistant there or should I use the vmdk provided? The fact that the provided vmdk seems to be a really stripped down version of linux which only works with IDE/SATA kind of make me doubt the whole thing but that’s just me. Any recommendation?

Thank you!
