Recommendations for a zigbee thermostat & installation

Good day all.

I’m in a rented property in the UK so I can’t do anything with my boiler without the landlords permission and only his approved plumber to make modifications, I get why but his plumber too expensive imo.

I would like to automate my heating, I have permission to replace the currently installed thermostat and installed some radiator valves.

What I’m looking for a zigbee based thermostat that can be fitted into the existing wiring. I’ve watched YouTube, looked here and on reddit for anything similar but don’t everything I found doesn’t look right (some have only two wire inputs and mine doesn’t)

Can anyone recommend a decent zigbee thermostat (available in the UK) and explain to me how to wire it in?

Edit: if there isn’t a zigbee model, wifi would be fine as long as I don’t have to use the tuya app.

This noobie idiot would be very grateful for all suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Wireless Thermostat Recommendation

You can use a zigbee temp sensor and relay, but also just have a simple thermostat wired in parallel with the relay. Set the thermostat to a low temperature so it normally won’t do anything, but if HA dies it will keep the house from freezing. That’s how mine is set up.

You could have a hive system as this is ZigBee. You don’t even have to have the current thermostat removed. You can just leave it on full (you can link it out at wiring centre if necessary). The receiver will be put in place of the current programmer assuming you have a S-Plan / Y-Plan system.

I have no idea what an S or Y plan is. . I’m also not allowed to touch the boiler so I’ve purchased a small switch to relay off the thermostat. This will work well for me as if/when I leave the property I can take it out easily enough. (when I know how to wire it in anyway)
