Recommended setup on a laptop

HI all.

My goal is to use Hassio on a laptop. Curious what setup others are using. My thoughts are these options:

Linux and Docker
Hyper-v and VM
Proxmox and VM
Others?

My install is not supported anymore (Running on a computer in virtual box and then Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS). So I might as well move it to the laptop now that I have it.

Thanks.

Home Assistant OS NUC image burnt direct to disk is another option.

I could never get that to work on my system, I don’t think there is very a very broad range of drivers included.

Yeah I’ve had one that worked and one that did not (no network driver).

I’m going to try that one again as I see some network cards have been added since last time I tried.

Mine just sat there blinking at me.

My preference is Proxmox. I run my system on a laptop (love the battery backup).

Anything except Home Assistant Supervised!

What exactly is Home Assistant Supervised?

Haven’t thought about this. What would be the benefit however?

Non-recommended installation method.

Oh, thanks. I believe that is what I have now.

Here’s something to look over.

Ease of updates, no unnecessary extra layers of abstraction, guaranteed to remain a healthy install type.

That page is pretty nonsensical. Ha supervised doesn’t require the most of you. I’d say that running core in a python environment and seperate services in other environments requires the most work

Somehow I am just singing the Foo Fighters β€œBest of You”

My vote is debian 10 + supervised.

And my vote would be Proxmox, same as @tteck above.

just installed Proxmox (fastest hypervisor I have ever installed). This looks promising.
