Is there a way that I can limit a light’s maximum brightness? I have an Elgato Key Light that is too bright for my need, even when at a very low setting. I’d like to be able to reduce its maximum brightness.
Do you mean lower the minimum brightness? Either way that would be hardware/firmware dependent.
I do mean the maximum brightness. I don’t want the HASS UI to allow the light to go above 10% of the maximum, even if the FW allows it. It’s a light for streamers, and I imagine the brightness is appreciated when the light is further away from the subject than it is in my configuration.
Oh I understand what you mean now. Not sure what the solution is other than “don’t turn it above 10%” tbh. I suppose you could make an automation that turns the brightness down to 10% if it goes above 10% but that’s kind of janky.
So make sure that every time you turn it on you turn it on at 10%
Additionally you can create a sensor that gives the light brightness (though it will probably be scaled 0 to 255) you can then set an automation to view this and if it ever goes above 26 you can turn it back down to 26 (as Tediore said, don’t know what “janky” is though)
Depending on how long it takes for the brightness attribute to update in home assistant it could go above the threshold and back below a few seconds later (janky IMO).
You could also just use a template trigger for this btw, no need to make a separate template sensor.
True, why introduce a 2nd unnecessary step
I think we would say Jerky rather than Janky - inelegant
I thought ‘most decent’ lights allowed a max and min setting but…
Another solution would be to buy a smaller bulb
