Hello all, just wondering, can I solder a reed switch to the contacts on an aqara leak sensor and effectively make a waterproof sensor for my gate? Or am I oversimplifying?
Should be able to, I use one with a pressure mat to make a bed occupancy sensor.
Thank you. I went esp32 for that function
My suggestion sudoxnym,
It might be water resistant, but it’s not waterproof. I would seal it up a bit with something or protect it like it’s not water resistant to keep it alive longer, and have a spare, they’re cheap.
Aren’t they ip67 rated? I was considering possibly 3d printing a case
IP67 just means that it can be immersed in 1m of water for at most 30min and protection from 1mm particles.
I’m aware, shouldn’t that be enough for rain and snow if not submerging? I prolly should have said resistant, I sell cell phones and never call them water proof, I guess I spaced when typing this.
Yea it should be fine in places where you don’t get constant levels of pooling water, i.e put it in the cover of the gate control and or just make a case that also prevents general rain from triggering its main contacts.
DUDE I didn’t even thing about the fact that the contacts getting wet would falsely trigger the reed. Idk why but I had it in my head that it would also work as a rain sensor, not that it is necessary, I have one, but no idea why I thought that. Thank you, yeah, gives me something to print =] CAD is fun
UMMM… YES! Thank you. Now I have another project. I literally just bought the printer so I haven’t found many projects yet, as it is still in the box. I was designing a case for another project but scrapped the project.
I wish I could afford a printer and its supplies but for now I just keep checking out vids that come up in my feeds to see whats out there for ideas lol.
i never even thought to look into cost of supplies, the printer was a black friday deal at best buy for 350 usd
