Reliability of an alarm system with Home Assistant

Hi All,
I’m thinking about the feasibility, safety and reliability of an alarm system setup with Home Assistant.

I think these should be the points an alarm system should have and all of this are very well satisfied by Home Assistant

  • sensors to intercept a break-in or an unwanted presence => HA allows you to have any type of sensor, even of different brands and allows a step-by-step design of a solution
  • alarm system and notifiyng sistem => HA can have one or more sirens and can reach mobile phone with acoustic notifications too
  • control devices => HA can integrate into the mobile app or can have a wall tablet near the door

My critical points are mostly related to the reliability of Home assistant:

  • What about if Home Assistant PC is broken/power-off? (i have an UPS that can give about 30min power to HA), but how could be a nice behaviour if i am on vacation and power goes out?

  • A legacy system i suppose has a siren that can fire an alarm if it looses connection (wire cut) with the alarm control unit…Can a siren managed if there is no connection with Home Assistant?

  • A siren generally has security systems if it is detached from the wall, covered with foam or immersed in water … in other words are there HA compatible sirens (zigbee, wifi or else) that manage if a thief wants to tamper with them ?

thank you all…i would like to see any kind of consideration about this topic

Bye!

Well, HA, nice as it is, will never be considered a certified alarm system by your insurance company, so I guess that is your answer. I’d buy a real one that can connect if you want to be sure. But it is a nice bonus to add some extra security of mind.

Broken is broken. Same goes for an of the shelf alarm system. Power outages you can be notified about if your router is also on the UPS. Another thing to think about is an alternative route to the internet as a fail-over for notifications. e.g. 4/5G.

I get around your other two issues by having cameras covering the boundaries of my property with person detection and notifications.

Thank You @Edwin_D , @tom_l for your responses.
I have already some ip cams integrated with frigate/HA and UPS for HA and router but the point about insurance company is good… I don’t know how my house insurance cost would be without the alarm system.
I already have an old wired alarm system, it’s simpler than a mini-pc with sofware installed on… very reliabily (very few false-alarms) but it’s old and not integrated…but…If there is a power outage… after 30min (with a buffer battery) the siren start to alarm
