Remote access to home network via Nabu Casa address? (without individual Public IP)

My ISP does not provide a public IP address - use of DuckDNS or similar DynDNS is not possible.
I have configured the access to HA through the cloud (Nabu Casa) and it works fine - I can log in to Home Assistant instance and manage it remotely.

However, I’m actually looking for a way to access my entire home network (access to other computers and devices).
The natural way seemed to me was to connect VPN (Wireshark) and HA cloud (Nabu Casa) - I wanted to create a VPN server on Home Assistance and connect to it remotely using Nabu Casa address.

The problem is that when I’m scanning on my Android app a Wireshark qrcode (generated by Wireshark server running on HA) I get an error: “Can’t create a tunnel. The address https://abc123xyz.ui.nabu.casa cannot be processed”.

Is there any simple way to get to home network from outside using the HA cloud?

Your ISP does provide a “public” (WAN - Wide Area Network) IP address, though it may be dynamic, otherwise you could not connect to the internet. Download a free app Fing and this will sniff all of the IP addresses on your network, including the WAN address. It should be possible to configure Dynamic DNS so you can always find your WAN address and connect externally.

I would not like to argue but I can assure you that I do not have a public IP available (individual). I have LTE internet.
Of course, I get an address on the WAN side, but this address is common to many users of the LTE network.
Unfortunately, the dynamic dns option is not available (no individual public ip address).

That is why I am asking for a different home network access option (using e.g. HA cloud).

If this sounds a bit snarky, it is because it is; don’t you think this vital information should have been included in the OP?

@Tromperie, CGNAT is a thing that’s common some places.

Thanks for that interesting information.

I wrote it in very first sentence…

OK, never mind… By misunderstanding, we are getting off topic, and I didn’t come any closer to solving the problem at all.

Questions:

  1. Why doesn’t Wireshark accept Nabu Casa address? (Error in Wireshark: “Can’t create a tunnel. The address https://abc123xyz.ui.nabu.casa cannot be processed”)
  2. How to easily access your home network using the HA (Nabu Casa) cloud? Is it possible at all?

Did you figure this out? Just switched to T-Mobile Home Internet and was thinking the same thing as you. I have Nabu Casa and would like to use it to access my Blue Iris NVR server. Don’t particularly want to pay for another VPN if Nabu Casa will work.

If you don’t have a public IP (CGNAT, …), Nabu Casa won’t help you access your LAN.
It acts a middleman specifically for HA; it’s your HA that creates a “tunnel” to Nabu Casa, and then they forward the traffic sent to “https://abc123xyz.ui.nabu.casa” to your instance via the tunnel.

Hi, as @koying mentioned, unfortunately this is impossible.
Yet I am still looking for a good (preferably free) way to get into my home network from the outside.
If anyone knows of one I would welcome such knowledge.

In the past I used a remote desktop application on a spare PC to allow remote access. Try Teamviewer or similar applications. They should work as the connection is through the the connection is through teamviewer and not directly to your home network so the teamviewer servers are providing the routing information.

As with all means of providing remote access, do your homework on the security of the application being used, use strong & unique passwords and 2FA when possible.
