actually, i have. i dont want to wire external contacts and position sensors when i can just buy a liftmaster (which is all my installer sells) and attach a ratgo and be done with it. I have to buy a ratgo or similar anyways so i might as well go the easy way.
that is what i bought, a liftmaster and a ratgo. the only issue is my unit has cameras so it needs to be connected to the internet or i cripple the functionality.
Ah. Someone on here has to have hacked their way around that i would think.
Agreed on going with ratgdo, thatâs my next move.
I will also recommend RATGDO, works exceptionally great on my garage door and a lot better than the myq app itself does.
It hasnt failed me once and it gives me a lot more features (e.g. switching on/off the ceiling light, get sensor status, set speed, set max positions etc etc).
I disconnected the myq/liftmaster internet bridge and only my remotes and the ratgdo (which runs on esphome) are able to control my door now. In turn it allows me to add it to google or homekit and it allows me to do complex automations with it (e.g. I have a led strip outside of the garage which will flash red if the door is in motion, green when the door stopped its motion or default white when the door is closed).
And lastly, this will work forever without the fear of them shutting down a feature.
I was aware that many features were removed from the myq app, for me a google assistant connection would have been enough to get it to work in HA and having a native solution at the side. But even google assistant was removed from the myq app, isnt optimized for newer android versions and is horribly useless. For my case it was the only way for them to install the security features like the contact sensors and such. Had I known that they are just simple sensors I wouldnt have bought the myq bridge at all.
Conclusion: Get a RATGDO if you use a chamberlain liftmaster and stop asking for another alternative , there is none better than RATGDO.
(I was joking ofc about not asking for alternatives, you should always ask for alternatives as that will enhance awareness!!)
Having been stung by the MyQ fiasco myself⌠and having four of these openers - I took the RATGDO approach this time last year myself and bought four of these from Paul. Reading the original statement from Chamberlain they indicated the automation community was a pretty small number of their total users ⌠that might be true.
Kinda curious if anyone has any data on how many RATGDOâs were sold (guess Paul would have to share that), but also adding in how many were built by others not wanting to buy it?
I own four myself⌠these work great!
