A cautionary tale:
I was given a Schlage BE469 deadbolt lock. With a lot of trial-error-and-research I finally got it included. But the signal was weak. My dongle was not on a USB extension so I thought I’d try that. I made the assumption that I could just pull it out, add the extension and put it back in. Ha, Ha, Ha!
Restarting HA didn’t fix it, nor shutting down HA and restarting the VirtualBox nor even power cycling the physical box.
What did work was to shut down HA, logically remove the stick from the VM USB configuration and then re-adding the stick to the VM USB configuration. I didn’t have to exclude/re-include all my Z-Wave devices because I used the serial-by-id serial port.
For those that don’t know, instead of using /dev/USBn use the very long and convoluted device descriptor found in settings–>system–>hardware–>all hardware (all hardware is a link)
May your days be better than mine was yesterday.
