Removing a Data Disk

There is a way to add a data disk, but there does not appear to be a way to remove it.

I have a data disk setup, but now want to remove it and only use the main disk drive that HAOS is installed on.

What is the best way to do this? I’ve made a backup, and from what I read, maybe I

  • Power down and physically remove the data disk
  • Boot up, at which point the system will simply start operating the old way, without a data disk, but presumably I’ll have no history of my sensors etc.?

For anyone searching for this in the future:

I removed the data disk physically and rebooted. HA failed to boot, with an error like
"Waiting for the Home Assistant CLI to be ready…”

I found this post:

Which got me past the error and into the CLI by using Ctrl+Alt+F2 to open a second terminal.

I was able to use the command e2label /dev/sda8 hassos-data to rename my data drive. See the linked post, this may not be the name of your drive.

After rebooting I was in a version of HA from before my data disk was first installed, which was about a year ago. I ended up using the samba addon to place a saved back up into the backup folder on HAOS and then restored from that back up. It took a few reboots after that to get everything right, but it worked.
