Reolink home assistant machine horsepower

What kind of home assistant horsepower do i need to say run 6 Reolink POE outdoor cameras, and maybe 4 indoor POE Reolink. With room to expand.

I’m confused about the home assistant hardware power capabilities. I started a year ago by running HA Green currently with just Zha and Zwave sensors and automations etc. and its fine for that.

I could switch it to an HA VM I have in Proxmox on a PC, but have been avoiding that switch.

So I guess the question, is Green too weak for cameras and should I just go with my PC and Proxmox and switch everything over before it grows any larger?

The PC is powerful enough, an HP Z1 G5 military DLA surplus, new in box. Expanded to 64Gb RAM, multiple spin drives and two 1TB NVMe. New in box. Mostly just sitting there with Proxmox and a couple small VMs on it.

HA doesn’t need a lot of power(horsepower). For your application you need a lot of storage. If HA Green is working fine for you, get a NAS, attach a share folder in HA and save your recordings there. Or maybe just an external hard drive.

If you already have the PC with all the available storage as you described, you can use it also. But it is not a question of power put storage and scalability.

No. green is fine if only viewing cameras

For NVR or i image processing it will likely be too little

Thanks for the feedback! I’ll experiment with an Ubuntu server VM and see if it’ll run some NAS software, Samba share in Green etc. and see what I can break in Proxmox. I’m learning, but the hard way. Backup first. Lol and do some more research on my possible options. I’m 70+ so I gotta hurry.
