I’ve made major progress in HA over the past few months and have most of the house automated.
Our electrical system is an early version of Centralite Elegance where all loads run to two adjoining panels and switches connect via low-voltage (ethernet) to a series of relays (called Stars) to a master control panel. Most of the bulbs in the house are now “smart” and on HA. But I still would like to add other loads that need special attention (fluorescents in bathrooms, overhead room and bathroom fans, outdoor beams, etc.). All of these are now managed by push-button switches connected with low-voltage. I am hoping there is an easy way to replace those switches with something that I can easily add to HA, meaning I would like to continue to use the low-voltage wires behind them.
Possible with Sonoff SV? If not, what am I looking for?
What voltage are we talking about at the switches? And AC or DC? (And are you using UK, European or US switch sizes?)
I blew a fuse on some gates when connecting an SV to control them, because I had not realised they were running at 24V AC (not DC, which is what the SV wants). I ended up buying an additional AC-DC converter, which was way more expensive than the SV!
If DC and 5-24V then the SV is small and nice and easy, though if you just need a dry contact (which I did for my gates) then a little hardware manipulation is needed. Tasmota works like a dream.
If AC and the voltage is high enough then maybe have a look at the plethora of Chinese switches around.
If AC and low voltage then you may need to look in to AC/DC converters and the SV if you have enough room. I haven’t seen (though tbf haven’t looked) for low voltage AC switches.
I guess the alternative would be to install a Sonoff 4CH PRO (or two) at your master control panel and wire your switches in to that.
