Request: ASK before updating the MySQL Database

Hey,

please, oh please: If there is an update to the schema required or available, make it a push button in the UI. Or a command. Anything BUT an automatic update.

Some of us run dedicated MySQL Servers that we would like to

  1. Snapshot or backup before you work on years of valuable data,
  2. Check if there is enough Space available to process 200GB+ of data.
  3. We can run this overnight, not during the day and break stuff.

It’s pretty simple:

Read the release notes. Database updates are mentioned.

Do not update until you are ready if there is a DB update.

Hi Christian,

The database update was not optional. If you were running the new version and had installed your own database, the db migration is required.
So what Tom said was the only way around it or migrate back to the default DB that is faster due to optimization by the devs than any of the well known alternatives.
