Reset Time of Daily Energy Usage

I think the daily energy usage is resetting at a time which is not 00:00, maybe a little later or even 01:00.

Does anyone know how to check this?

Are you talking about the energy dashboard, a utility meter, a history sensor, a sensor from an integration or something else?

Hi there, the energy dashboard.

I believe I read somewhere the dashboard does indeed gather the info a little after the hour, but that does not say anything about in which time window a measurement gets included. It is reading from statistics, it is not actually resetting anything.

How are you reading the dashboard? It shows bars for 00:00 through 23:00, so the timeframe should be seen as 8:00 meaning 8:00 until 8:59.

Note that if the energy sensor is not sending a new value at exactly the start of the hour it is a bit arbitrary to which hour that increment is attributed. You won’t get exact results if mesurements are faw between. But either way you can rest assured though it does not count anything double.

A utility meter can be used to gather similar results - it does reset at predefined times and even allows for an offset.

Is there any specific reason you are doubting what you are seeing? If the values are off by a multiple of an hour, you might want to check if the timezone is set right for your instance. Any calculation is depending on that to be right.

Thanks for the detailed answer. I have a template sensor recording the energy used. The template definitely resets at 00:00 and records a different value to the Energy dashboard. It’s similar but not precise. Both using the same hardware.

So i wondered why it was different. If there is no way to get the value the same as the template sensor, thats fine. Ill just have to keep this in mind.

Thanks

I monitored the energy dashboard and noticed it updates for the proceeding hour. So at 01:00 it will contain the information collected between 00:00 and 01:00.

Rather obvious, but good to have clarity.
