Restore problems

Like some others I seem to be having restore issues. I changed the SD card in my Pi4 and can’t seem to restore any recent back up. I managed to restore one from October 27th (which only took a few minutes), but anything since is not working at all (or is taking longer than I am waiting). Thing is, not much has changed with the installation since the one that works. I have tried to restore on the Pi and also a Windows PC running Virtual Box.
If anyone has any thoughts/help that would be great. Thanks

Define not working. An error or just nothing.

How long did you wait?

Hi - I just went through a restore and wanted to add some tips in case this helps anyone else.
My setup is hosted on virtual box.
Tips:

  1. If you are recovering or reinstalling, create a new virtual box host, rename the old one to preserve it and allow your to use the same VM name. After a few days of sucessful recovery, you can purge this, but this provides other options for recovery.

  2. Look at the advanced configuration of your network on your OLD VM and record the MAC address. Edit the new VM to have the same MAC address. This will allow DHCP to assign the same IP address if you are using a reserved/static IP that is assigned by DHCP.

  3. If you have been running HA for a while, the default 32GB size of the vdi might not be big enough. Prior to starting HA, use the virtualbox media manager tool to expand the vdi size. How big will depend… My HA disks usage was almost at 64GB prior to the restore so I set the new vdi to be 100GB to be safe and allow some room for growth. Expand to what your environment will support.

  4. After you kick off the restore, on the console in the command line environment (CLI) you will have an ha > prompt. You can periodically type the supervisor logs command to get a sense of the progress.

In my case, my log showed “Home assistant has crashed!” and a few lines above there was an “out of space” message. Once I increased the size of the VDI (Tip #3), I saw the HA supervisor post a log message about expanding the disk prior to starting the restore. When the restore was complete, the supervisor posted the log message: [supervisor.backup.manager] Full-restore done. (But the web page was still showing the restore animation.) I opened a new tab in the browser to a dashboard and connected - 100% restored!
