Restored image back to new ProxMox 8.02 Hypervisor MQTT broker stopped working

Ah sorry, I’d forgotten, you can also get to a host Linux prompt in the HA VM from the HA CLI console by typing ‘login’ - you don’t need to SSH in.

Yes…im not sure if i said before but if theres a version update i can just shunt the lot to my windows server, rebuild without fear of loosing anything and then dump it all back on…and, thats worked while within the confines of 7.x but the jump to 8 has stopped it working.

With regards to why i run the 2…well, ive got a lot of Aurora hardware and theyve recently abandoned the system so the hardware if not redundant will be soon when they switch of their servers (which were servicing my zigbee routers) and here i am on Home Assistant (so it kinda wasnt by choice)! anyway the reason for the 2 radios was that some of the aurora hardware is either erratic, doesnt work (once connected) or wont even connect but, what wont connect to the ConBee does (usually) connect to the Sonoff. And when there was stuff on the Sonoff you could use it normally across the 2 platforms…it did work really well!

The ConBee is on ACM0 - at this point in time it could be something thats inherent from the move from 7 to 8 and if thats a fallout of the version update (and the issue is found) then it could help alot of other people making the jump.

Yes, I’m grateful for the warning that there might be issues upgrading

So do you need to specify the devices to Zigbee2MQTT, or does it discover them?
And do you see different permissions if you do
ls -l /dev/ttyUSB0
vs when you do
ls -l /dev/ttyACM0
?
I would expect something like crw-rw----, and owned by root.

Thanks very much for the help…just to say the conbee went over without hitch…thats fine so ive got a working system…the other thing with the sonoff is (and i might be wrong here) but when i was messing around inside the zigbee2mqtt window where you pair stuff up there was an option to bind stuff together without needing the HA = so even after ive lost the radio (ie this problem) some devices are still working…a remote button and bulb upstairs are still working…

i cant seem to copy and past from the HA terminal window in here but i can see crw-rw for the Sonoff

and same for the ConBee

Many thanks for your help.

Mmm. Running out of ideas, I’m afraid…
When I’ve added USB devices in the Proxmox Hardware console, I’ve selected ‘Use USB Vendor/Device ID’. You might try different settings there?
Oh, and I presume you don’t have the same device exposed to any of your other VMs?

No - just the HA - i might add that with the new version of proxmox while i can see the Sonoff in the usb passthrough there are some extra options… a new one being “raw” - ive got another proxmox server ( a high powered one ) which is completely separate and in no way connected for messing around with gaming and 3d stuff and that works alot better now…(handing the A2000 12gb) over to a vm seems to have more performance…digressing a bit now but just saying…

OK - no more ideas at present, I’m afraid. I’ll go and walk the dog and see if that brings inspiration!
Otherwise I’ll be down to suggestions like turn-it-off-and-on-again or unplug-and-replug-the-USB-stick or even reinstall-the-zigbee2mqtt  Or perhaps try-zha-instead

Thats absolutely fine sir.! thanks for chipping in - as i say ive got a working system so its not the end of the world…!

Gonna try removing all of the zigbee stuff then try another usb port then reinstall…

Just to add doing the above are there any folders that i can delete in the background? (cache files that kind of thing?) so i dont reinstall and it finds all the same settings.?

I think that if you really want to start from scratch, removing the related devices/entities should be enough. There are various files under .storage in your config directory that used to be safe to blow away when all the important stuff was in YAML… but I’m not quite sure now: a lot more stuff is kept in there since we configure so much with the GUI, so make sure you keep copies if experimenting!

I might:

  • stop and remove zigbee2mqtt
  • go and look in MQTT and delete any relevant entries - I use the very handy MQTT Explorer. Uninstalling and reinstalling Mosquitto would probably also empty it out too.
  • restart zigbee2mqtt and hopefully you should see your devices come back.

Thanks but its not the devices - its the ability to see the webpage to then add them in…i think once ive got that back itll all just start again…

It was not clear to me at all from what you wrote but you are using a Conbee AND a Sonoff at the same time, right?
If so, it might not be bad to give such details in your OP if you post for help.

Which zigbee integrations do you use?

Yes - thats right…both at the same time…well, i was!

Not sure what you mean by integrations though…

Zigbee2mqtt or zha?

Hi - sorry ive not replied…problem is getting worse and worse so going to cut my losses and rebuild from scratch…!

Hi - just to say that now im running a fresh build i ran through the setup again of the Sonoff and while everything went according to plan, initially it wouldnt start saying something in the logs along the line of a channel was clashing…i messed around with it for an hour or so but as i was rebuilding from scratch i had a load of other stuff to do…fast forward a day (having not been back to that aspect) i clicked on the MQTT shortcut down the left hand side and its now working…no idea what happened but im back online (with the Sonoff dongle) - so just to confirm im running both the conbee II and the Sonoff together.
