Restoring Home Assistant from backup

Started a core update today and HA froze up. Now UI won’t start at all, just hangs on “loading data” then says “unable to connect to Home Assistant”. I can access the files on the HA server through my desktop, and if I connect a monitor to the HA server, I get this screen:

I can access the HA files through my desktop, which is on the same network. Seems like the updater at least succeeded in making a backup before it crashed. How do I go about getting it to start / restoring from the backup from this situation?
Thank you

OK, found out how to do a backup restore from the CLI of HA. Searched for and found the slug for the latest backup, then used the "back restore " command. Now it’s just hanging on “processing…” Great. What next? Try a different backup? fresh installation of HA and then restore from a backup? It was all going so well…should know to avoid updates whenever possible…

Be patient. How big was the backup?

You’re right, I’m being impatient. It now says complete and has gone back to the CLI with ha > prompt. How to I finish HA startup from here?

Found it! I had to use the homeassistant.local:8123 URP rather than the ip that I was using to log in after backup restore. Thanks for the re-assuarnce @tom_l and it has also been useful talking to myself for my own comfort!

Hey mate, I have a similar situation after an update, so how did you get in to restore?

This is what I did:

Be patient. It can take a long time

I guess there’s no way to restore a partial backup - which sucks. All I need to do is remove 2 lines from my configuration.yaml keeping me from accessing home assistant. Developer tools said it wouldn’t prevent me from restarting; didn’t say anything about freezing me out
