Great job!
Yeah looks pretty hackable! ![]()
In worst case just glue everything up.
1st test successful.
Got some nice sound (at least for 5€) out of it with a ESP32-C5 and a MAX98357A.
Now i have to modify the hardware ![]()
It should be doable to design a mount for the board and the two buttons, similiar to the VAPPEBY one.
I got the speaker fully converted ![]()
I started a new thread about it here.
Thanks for the good start info.
Great ToDo!
Would you say it sounds better than Vappeby? Because for this price it’s a steal!
I have a larger Vapebby and shared the steps in a thread here if anyone is curious: Making a DIY smart speaker with the big Ikea Vappeby
Nice that you used Respeaker Lite for it. Full-fledged satellite!
Yeah it’s very convenient and easy to use. Thanks for your yaml, too!
My only gripe with it is the microphones should stick out from the PCB more so they can sit flush with an enclosure (they’re not high enough)
I also had to adjust the gain and mic sensitivity on your code to get it to hear me (not sure if that will help others)
Lastly the TTS audio plays very quietly on the speaker compared to music from Music Assistant. I think this is an issue with my Music Assistant and I need to figure out what’s happening there. I have it set to increase the volume when announcing but it’s still quiet at 100%
Yeah I think Music Assistant has announcement relative volume in player settings.
Doesn’t seem to work for me
It adjusts the volume, but the max volume of announcements is still quieter than the music.
This might be related to the volume normalization setting which I’ve disabled. Enabling it makes the music quieter and reduces the dynamic range. I wonder if I can adjust the volume on the Kokoro TTS side of things, I’ll have to do some research ![]()
