I’ve read a few threads on people looking for downlights. I am also looking to add recessed downlights to my house. I need the flat wafer style lights as ceiling access is limited and the ease of installing these kind of lights is a big plus. I’m having a hard time trying to determine if the the lights I’m looking at are compatible with HA. I want the lights to be RGB and use either Zigbee or WLED but I would settle for Tasmota. I thought I read somewhere that the Phillips RGB wifi Wiz lights were compatible with HA but I can’t find the thread where I read it. Can anyone point me to lights that would fit my need or tell me if the Phillips lights will work? Here is a link to the Phillips lights I’m referring to:

Do you really need smart lights?
More often than not you will be better off with smart dimmers and dumb lights. This allows for much better manual control for Luddite guests. And the lights can still be controlled if home assistant is offline.
If you want coloured light for accents or notifications, use a table lamp with a smart bulb.
There are reasons to go with smart bulbs, like if you are renting or don’t want to have to hire an electrician. Or if you have architrave switches like my place There are no architrave smart switches. It can be done but you have to use switch modules in the wall (not possible at my place) or roof (too hot in summer).
No, for this application I want RGB downlights. I have numerous smart switches throughout my house so I know the limitations and use cases for each option.
I have about 50 smart downlights now, all but one in my house. I have adjustable white ZigBee lights from Eaton Halo and four full color lights from Philips WiZ. Those are WiFi and are now officially integrated.
The WiZ lights are cheap and have excellent color, but do get flakey at times requiring they be shut off at the switch and back on to restart them. I have them outside, so that could be part of it and the distance from my router. They remain connected to the cloud because I’ve heard they can get troublesome if you don’t let them remain connected, but I’ve not noticed any excessive chatter on my network because of them.
They’re cheap enough, I’d recommend trying a couple out.
Can they be flashed with Tasmota?
I have a couple Wiz lights and they work fairly well. No complaints about them. I have them on a blocked VLAN and have no trouble using them without the cloud. I just used the app for initial setup, blocked the VLAN and was good to go. I would have gone with zigbee, but I already had cans and needed R20 lights and Wiz was the only one I could find who made them in RGB.
The dimming isn’t particularly smooth, but that’s an issue I’ve seen with a lot of smart dimmers. And the effects are kind of silly and pointless but that can be ignored.
I have not tried. But since they themselves are integrated into How Assistant and based on this comment,
would be easier to just try them as is.
