Hi All, When we re did our kitchen we added a Nanoleaf lightstrip above the tile splash back (see image below for reference) and we absolutely love it. The only issue is that the Nanoleaf stuff is just buggy (i have it connected directly to HA via SkyConnect) and is prone to crash ever now and again. A simple HA restart fixes it, but im just not happy. So I replaced it with a Hue lightstrip, we have several other hue lightstrips in the house as well as many other bulbs and they work fantastic.
The problem is tho that the hue strips use RGB (I think?) to create a white colour, which has a tinge of green in it (where as the Nanoleaf use just white) and its not good on our kitchen bench when you are working with food. I prefer the plain white that the Nanoleaf strip creates. We also have adaptive lighting setup so the strip changes from bright to wam white over the evening. So we went back to buggy Nanoleaf.
OK. So what im asking is what alternative is there to the Nanoleaf that would create the same nice white? I see on their site they list the strip as RGBCW, Do I just need to change over to WLED or something but make sure I get a RGBCW strip?
Note: We have quite a few Zigbee devices and this works well. So Zigbee controller would be preferable, but also have good wifi and dont mind going down this route.
Thanks for the suggestion. The web page is all in dutch or German and unfortunatly won’t translate. plus being from New Zealand its a bit of a way away. That gives me some good info thanks.
I have exactly that, but check this out. (FYI: Only when you turn the hue strip to bright white does it turn off the green LED, but then there is a blue LED on as well for that).
Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus showing green to create a white:
According to some googling: The Nanoleaf is listed as a RGBCW strip, where as hue is RGBW. RGBW and RGBCW/WW have one simple difference, RGBW have a single channel of pure white with one colour temperature. RGBCW/WW have a two white channels which allows adjustment between two colour temperatures
This must be how the nanoleaf can set any colour temp without using the RBG to create the colour?
It looks to me like the Philips strip has warm white and cool white leds. The very left led is cool white. The one in the center is red green and blue. And the one on the right is warm white. (you can check this by setting the color to red and green and then confirming that it is the center led that illuminates red and blue)
I don’t think there is anything wrong with the hardware. I think there are some color mapping issues going on. How have you connected this light? If it’s connected to a hue hub, do you get the same behaviour when selecting the color in the hue app?
