I’ve not seen any joy for people asking related questions over the years, but I’ve not seen this specifically asked recently (well, nothing came up in my searches).
In the Ring app, events have various Event Types - Ring, Motion, Person Detected, Vehicle Detected, Live View, Key Delivery, Linked Device, Sound Event, Package (there may be others, but that is what I have listed in my Ring app based on my devices and location [Australia]).
Are these Event Types exposed, or able to be exposed, in the Ring integration?
I’m specifically wanting to leverage the ‘Vehicle Detected’ event type for use in automations so I can be alerted via other means when a vehicle is detected.
I’m not currently seeing the Event Type detail anywhere as I go through logbook for the various sensors in the HA 2025.3.2 Ring integration, but I may be missing something.
I don’t want to use the generic motion detected event (or similar) as I have pets and family members often triggering the camera which is why I want to see if it is possible to leverage Ring’s ‘smarts’ to only use the Vehicle Detected event type.
Where do you see this info? My ring app just says “motion detected” for my cameras. My Ring doorbell says person at the front door or package detected but thats it.
If i can differentiate between people and vehicles detected on my Ring cameras that would be great
In the Ring app (I’m using Android so it may be different on iOS), in the hamburger menu, select History.
Each event will have an Event Type.
To get the full list of Event Types, I looked at the Events filter at the top on the page.
The vehicle detection seems to be a very recent feature. I want really aware of it until I got an email from Ring last week directing me to a survey to provide feedback on the vehicle detection feature. It doesn’t appear to be available on all cameras and doorbells, just more recent ones (Vehicle Detection | Ring}
In events it only has Motion, Person Detected , key delivery and Package. No vehicle and my doorbell is the only one with Package and Person Detected events. No vehicle or detection for my cameras
