Ring vs Nest Aware Security for best automation

Hi all,

I can’t seem to make up my mind between getting the Ring camera/security or the Google Nest cams. A Ring subscription is much cheaper for multiple cams, so that seems like a no-brainer… but I really, really don’t want to replace all my Google Hubs/Homes with Alexa devices since you can only see Ring camera on Alexa Show.

My question is, which of the two have the best integration with Home Assistant and or IFTTT?

Ring.

Nest has no integration and recently broke the little it had. Long term I can’t expect this to get better as Google is known for killing projects/products without cause

Long term both may break integration. I will add ubiquiti to your decision tree. I like none of the three but ubiquiti will probably remain API consistent long term and is better offline but will require you manage server.

Considering that Google killed Nest API access, and are trying desperately to move all users under the Google Home ecosystem… if you want to use HA, I think Nest is a non-starter (unless you already own all the devices you want and already have an active Nest dev account, and even then…)…

Thanks, I will confidently go with Ring (big relief because already bought 10-piece bundle and some floodlight cams.

Ubiquiti was my #1 choice a while back but I’m afraid I will end up spending thousands eventually for servers, racks, wifi, etc… just so I could play with it. Although there security cameras/system should be top of the line, I feel it’s actually unsafe to have all footage stored locally. So I would eventually be trying be uploading hundreds of gigabytes per month worth of footage to some cloud = to much hassle and very costly.

I live in hope (yeah, call me stupid) that Google will somehow reopen some of its APIs.I have asked myself the same question and when I finally convince the wife to get a smart doorbell, it most probably will be a Nest Hello. Like you I have google homes and chromecasts so it makes sense to me, plus the Hello seems to have more features than the Ring.
I do already have a nest pro account so that might make it easier…
Well maybe not that stupid, I still haven’t bought anything, By the time I’m ready maybe things will have changed…
