Room Presence that works?

Hey everyone,

So I have a problem and I’m hoping someone can help me point in the right direction.

I have a wife and two kids, they keep moving from one room to another and do not switch off the HVAC, TV, Fan, Lights. Ideally, if there’s no one in the room, everything should switch off after 5 mins.

In every room, I have a motion sensor and a IP camera

So far, I’ve tried:

  1. Motion Sensors: Very unreliable
  2. Camera Motion Sensor: Blue Iris + Deep Stack. Wasn’t detecting humans in low light.
  3. A combination of motion sensor + camera sensor: Keeps saying no motion detected even when there’s a human present in the room.

My current infrastructure: HASS running on VM Ware, Imou Ranger 2 camera, Sonoff Zigbee Motion sensors.

I don’t mind spending money but I need a room presence that works atleast 99% of the times.

Add some IR illumination to option 2?

Try positioning the motion sensors differently or maybe get other motion sensors, I always had pretty good results with motion sensors. Also sometimes you may need multiple motion sensors.

In addition depending on the room you can have other sensors that signal if a room is occupied. E.g. pressure sensors in the sofa for the livingroom.

The most reliable and sustainable solution is education/training for your wife and kids
