I’m looking for a way to automate a central heating thermistostat (different from a thermostat in that it gives a changing resistance to room temperature rather than simple on/off). The best way I can think of is a rotary servo, like the ones for key turning but finely changeable in a 360 degree range. I would remove the knob and attach the servo to the shaft.
Has anyone seen something like this as a project or current hardware?
The pictured Thermistostat works with a brand of warm air heating. The device detects the room temperature using a thermistor and this generates a resistance value to the heating system. The system then intelligently regulates the gas and fan system to maintain the given temperature selected on the dial. It’s NOT like a thermostat that is simply on/off.
I would like to be able to automatically control the dial setting on the Thermistostat as I think building a replacement automated unit might be too complex with no circuit diagrams!
