In switching to Raspban to Debian I have learned that the ability to control the GPIO pins on the RPI 4 is built into the Raspbian kernel only. I was only using the GPIO pins for turning the RPI fans on and off. It sounds counterintuitive, but as a workaround I thought I would create an automation that controls the fan right within HA which is easy to do. So my remaining questions is, what kind of very inexpensive IOT switch is the best for this - actually would rather power the fans externally with 12v for higher speed anyway - thoughts? And the best fans? And maybe the best cases which wouold never even require a fan if the heat sinbk is so huge it never gets hot?
