Hi all, I’ve spend an interesting weekend getting Homebridge running on a Pi Zero W in order to use my Tradfri lights via a Hue hub through Siri/Homekit. It seems that everything now runs smoothly and I’m quite happy with it. But I’m also intrigued by the extra capabilities that Home Assistant offers, for instance controlling my Sonos speakers through Siri/Homekit. Is it possible to run Homebridge and Home Assistant next to each other on the same device? It’s an option to migrate my lights to Home Assistant, but first I would like test the waters so to speak.
It can work. I use to run Homebridge on any Pi3 with Home Assistant. I’ve started using Home Assistant built in homekit so no need for me to run Homebridge anymore.
Homebridge is a native part of Home Assistant for a couple of months now and the setup and maintainance is much easier than running both in parallel.
I’ve no particular interest in Homebridge per se, it’s just what I discovered first I’ll look into migrating my platform!
The reason I’ve looked at doing both relates to home assistant being limited(cameras for example.)
Yeah, there are some limitations with the native homekit in HA. Homebridge is much more flexible for a specific cases, like cameras, and other things that HA does not yet support, but it will eventually.
