I am looking into using relays for various purposes around the house, connected to ESP32’s for HA control (sprinkler control and garage door, for example).
It seems like there are plenty of options like the below:
Are there good relay modules that are reliable and safe enough to stuff in a box or leave in the garage without worrying about burning down the house? Maybe UL listing or made by a reputable company?
Why not simply use WiFi relays?
I use three of these to control my lawn sprinklers, and one to control my garage door openers.
I have ESPHome flashed to all of them.
All of my lights are controlled with WiFi or Z-Wave switches. My favorite WiFi device is the Sonoff Mini. I have no favorite for Z-Wave.
I have several such modules closed in plastic enclosures working for years without any problem. Btw, power supplies are source of fire most often, be sure to use quality one and properly fused.
