I am using the hx711 in conjunction with four shear beam load cells that each have four wires. I have these connected by simply connecting all to the same coloured wires together and then connecting those wires to the hx711 (hopefully this is correct). The load bars I have connected are 500kg each. What I was wondering is if I hook up 5v to the hx711 will it only return 5v if I have a load of 500kg meaning that it would be safe to connect the hx711 modual directly to the esp board, without the need for a resitor, if the load on the platform never exceeds 330kg (3.3v)
HX711 gives you digital out based on its inputs. Give it its desired input voltage and everything will be fine.
