I’d like to have my Home Assistant instance’s Samba share appear in my computer’s “Network” folder. This only works if I enable Compatibility Mode in Samba Share “Configuration” section, and results in HA using NetrBIOS to advertise its services.
Windows has move to wsd (Web Services for Devices), which (AFAIK) Samba should support. Unfortunately, this setting is not available in the Configuration section.
This is a windows problem. You have to go into the registry to change settings so that windows will use lower levels of Samba. I have done it in the past, but the answer is on some windows forum somewhere as to the exact steps. I no longer use windows and don’t remember them well enough to help you exactly…
Don’t think this is a Windows problem - this is an HA/Samba add-on issue. “Compatibility Mode” in Samba (upon which, if not mistaken, the add-on is based) does allow HA to be discovered using NetBIOS.
NetBIOS as discovery protocol was superseded by wsd (see here) – implemented (?) by wsdd daemon. Unfortunately, I am clueless as to how to enable wsdd in HA.
BUT, I was able to find the following in HA/git : Add WSDD support to Samba Addon which seems to have been closed “A long, long time ago.”
