Samsung refrigerator "off-line" unless clicked in app

While not strictly HA and more Smart Things, I figured I’d ask here as I’m not getting a response in the Samsung Forums. Since folks here integrate their ST items to HA, I figured someone may have seen this or know the answer.

We got a new refrigerator, and while “Smart” wasn’t on my list of features, it is a Samsung and is supported by ST. It isn’t one with a screen on it, but with the ST app you can see the temp, toggle a few settings, know if the door is open, etc.

So, I figured, “why not.” I added it via it’s WIFI as my only device to the Smart Things app. It shows as “off-line” all the time unless I click its panel - then it connects and I see and can use all of the above things. Exit the app and re-enter and it is off-line.

I don’t know if I got the bare minimum “smart” 'fridge and that is how it works, or if something on my network is blocking a full time connection.

I could easily duplicate most of this in HA with a few temp and door sensors, I know. Be nice to use its features if I can.

And what happens when you add the smartthings integration to HA? do you see the fridge status?

It shows “unavailable” as well. History for the entities also have no status changes since the ST integration was added.

It almost sounds like it’s dropping off the wifi network.

You’d think so, right? But nope. My wifi router shows it is constantly connected and I left “ping” running at it’s IP address for over an hour. It was connected the whole time.

Crazy, and you set it up via the Configuration → Integrations page right?

Yup, sure did.

Well… a little further. I gave up on it and then today someone left the fridge door ajar which triggered the alarm on the fridge and the app. All of a sudden, now, the Smart Things app sees the fridge and works. Cool.

Unfortunately, HA still shows it as “unavailable/unknown” I deleted the integration, regenerated the token and setup again. I see:

Device by “unknown”

Entities:
Refrigerator Thermostat Cooling Setpoint: unknown
Refrigerator Contact: closed

If your contact is reporting closed, try opening the door and see if it reports opened.

The “Device by ‘unknown’” is normal.

Yeah, doesn’t seem to be the entity that registers open/close. The web version of Smart Things seems to indicate that is just the sensor when their service pings the fridge.

Dang, mine gives me nearly real-time stats on open/closed, but it’s the full blown Family Hub version.

I think mine is just an average IQ and the others are Genius level.
