While not strictly HA and more Smart Things, I figured I’d ask here as I’m not getting a response in the Samsung Forums. Since folks here integrate their ST items to HA, I figured someone may have seen this or know the answer.
We got a new refrigerator, and while “Smart” wasn’t on my list of features, it is a Samsung and is supported by ST. It isn’t one with a screen on it, but with the ST app you can see the temp, toggle a few settings, know if the door is open, etc.
So, I figured, “why not.” I added it via it’s WIFI as my only device to the Smart Things app. It shows as “off-line” all the time unless I click its panel - then it connects and I see and can use all of the above things. Exit the app and re-enter and it is off-line.
I don’t know if I got the bare minimum “smart” 'fridge and that is how it works, or if something on my network is blocking a full time connection.
I could easily duplicate most of this in HA with a few temp and door sensors, I know. Be nice to use its features if I can.
You’d think so, right? But nope. My wifi router shows it is constantly connected and I left “ping” running at it’s IP address for over an hour. It was connected the whole time.
Well… a little further. I gave up on it and then today someone left the fridge door ajar which triggered the alarm on the fridge and the app. All of a sudden, now, the Smart Things app sees the fridge and works. Cool.
Unfortunately, HA still shows it as “unavailable/unknown” I deleted the integration, regenerated the token and setup again. I see:
Yeah, doesn’t seem to be the entity that registers open/close. The web version of Smart Things seems to indicate that is just the sensor when their service pings the fridge.
