Samsung Smartthings Minisplit script failing with strange error

The error is “Provided temperature 83.0 is not valid. Accepted range is 141.8 to 186.8”

This makes no sense, no HVAC I know of could have such a temperature range in F or C.
Context:
The script basically turns the HVAC to cool and sets the temperature (83) based on a schedule meta data to all four using the new actions across an area. It also manages the display lighting so it’s not left on attracting bugs as Samsung resets this to on for any mode change with no way to leave it off.

I have been running an automation/script for several months without a problem. This last week I noticed that it started to fail when turning on. There are four mini splits that are controlled and scheduled by HA. Two still work fine, but two are now have an error that makes no sense and I am trying to diagnose this.

If I directly control one turning it on to “cool” within HA through the Smarthings card, they react without an error.

AC 1 and AC 4 both still work correctly and turn on to cool with the correct temperature.
AC 2 and AC 3 both do not turn on through the script.

Here is the script that gets run…

The plot thickens.

Looking at the Card in HA for the three, this is what is displayed…

Notice that the two problem ones are displaying a WIDE arc for the temperature range with the current temp at the bottom. This arc represents that ridiculous error range mentioned above.

When I check in my Smarthings dashboard it lists the acceptable range like the others between 61 and 86.

So the details of the “AC” object exposed by Smartthings Integration shows the following YAML which has the incorrect values for min and max. Now to try to find where these are coming from,

I would take the opportunity to remove the ACs from SmartThings. They’ll be charging you $5 a month as from next month for the privilege of using their API. Read here for details

How do I locally control them or integrate them into HA then?

Well, while working out another issue (Matter Time Sync) the system required a restart and after that restart the problem has gone away.

Now a simple restart was done prior, and it didn’t solve the problem, but I can’t see how the Matter Time Sync integration could have affected any of this.

AND Home Assistant core update just applied, and after that update the problem is back but with AC 3 and AC4 (one that had it before, and one that didn’t have the issue before).

Search is your friend  Smartthings must be destroyed

Those two numbers aren’t random. 141.8 and 186.8 are exactly what you get when you take 61°F and 86°F and run them through the Celsius-to-Fahrenheit formula a second time, and 61 to 86°F is the usual 16 to 30°C setpoint range on a mini split. So the integration is receiving that unit’s min/max already in Fahrenheit and converting it again, which is why 83 lands outside the “range” while the real range would accept it. I don’t have one of these to test, but the fact that it moves between units across restarts smells like the temperature unit is read per device at startup and sometimes comes back as C, so I’d compare what the two failing units report for temperature scale in the SmartThings API against the two that work.
