The new sections card is a great step in the right direction for dashboard creation.
However
As the new thermostat cards are growing faster than the grill of every new BMW it’s nearly impossible to fit multiple on one screen.
In my opinon, you shouldn’t have to scroll on a dashboard (wall mounted tablet). Therefore I really need something that would help me fit my cards into a certain amount of available space.
This could be achieved in 2 ways:
You can drag on a corner of a (grid of) card(s), resizing it while keeping it’s aspect ratio.
You can achieve this automatically by making a certain grid which resizes depending on the available screen space.
I recently tried to remove as many custom front end components from my dashboard as possible but one that I couldn’t give up is Simple Thermostat
It does the same job just without the mandatory curvy slider thing.
Unfortunately I think the “resizing” approach is not possible with the new non-masonry layout, there is a certain amount of one-size-fits-all that is necessary for it to work.
How about putting a 2-column grid inside the section to hold the thermostat cards to be a bit more space efficient?
edit: just noticed that at this size the +/- buttons don’t display which is frustrating
The issue with the simple thermostat card is that you can’t swap target and current temp.
I know which temp I want, I only care about the current temp and want to be able to see it from a distance.
In my current setup the cards are already in the grid.
Did you set the Grid card to have 2 columns? It looks to me like the thermostats are taking the full Section width (I haven’t fully explored the depths of the new Sections layout so it may well behave differently on different screen sizes).
Anyway I have added my vote as I think adding flexibility to the new layout approach is something worth exploring.
