I just came across the blog that Hackster shared, introducing the latest release from Seeed Studio – a mmWave human detection sensor kit. According to the article, setting it up with Home Assistant is a breeze, taking only 3 minutes, and there’s no need for any coding. Exciting stuff!
I’m absolutely thrilled about this addition to my smart home setup – here’s why:
The XIAO ESP32C3 powers this kit, enabling the Wi-Fi/BLE capabilities.
These mmWave sensors promise a high accuracy in human detection.
What’s even more exciting is the ability to effortlessly expand its features with grove modules. I can envision enabling environmental monitoring by adding a temperature sensor, for instance.
Setting up this kit with Home Assistant is a breeze, taking only 1-2 minutes. If that’s the case, I’m all in.
OTA Update is a huge plus for keeping everything up to date.
6.The option to swap out mmWave sensors for different needs. It’s like having a versatile toolkit for my smart home.
Once this kit lands on my doorstep, I’m planning to to use it to beef up my indoor air quality monitoring – adding a sensor to detect CO2. So, while I haven’t actually tried this kit yet, I’m bursting with excitement to give it a whirl. If any of you out there have purchased this kit too, let me know what you’d make with it! I’m all ears and can’t wait to share more ideas with you!
FWIW, Inovelli is also releasing a mmWave switch this year that has all the normal switch operations plus presence detection. I’m anxiously awaiting that because it means that instead of adding extra devices, I just put in a switch with the smarts to also know if anyone is in the room.
This product can determine three states of the current environment, which are someone in motion, someone at rest, and no one. The recognition and capture of someone’s motion is in real time, and the judgment from someone’s motion to someone’s stillness and from someone to no one is usually about 30 seconds.
I should be able to get my hands on one shortly.
I found the modular approach interesting, you can technically add another sensor to the package so it will be more useful.
Hi All
New to home assistant.
I purchased one of these SeedStudio sensors.
No problem integrating it with HA.
Problem is I want to compile an Automation so that when the sensor detects presence, a light switches on, and when no presence, the light switched off.
Seems simple, but I can’t find the correct parameter to use, the ones presented are very confusing.
EG:
Action
Change SeeedStudio mmWave Kit 3fa2a0 Time For Entering No Person State (Standard Function) to next option
Action
Change SeeedStudio mmWave Kit 3fa2a0 Time For Entering No Person State (Standard Function) to first option
None seem to relate to Presence or not!
Please can someone advise?
Many thanks
