Hi,
I’m currently planning to control our old garage door with a Switch Bot and would love to have a simple button on the phone, or even better, in Android Auto, to open and close the door. Is this somehow possible without being in the same WiFi as Home Assistant? Preferably without any cloud solution.
There are several ways to achieve remote access to Home Assistant. You can explore the following methods, each with its own requirements and benefits: Nabu Casa (Cloud Integration), DuckDNS (requires a static IP or dynamic DNS), Tailscale (VPN-based solution), reverse proxy setups, or Cloudflare.
The key point is that there isn’t a single “best” method. The choice depends on your specific needs and circumstances, such as security preferences, ease of setup, and compatibility with your existing network infrastructure. It’s recommended to review each option and select the one that best fits your requirements.
