Sensereo MS-1 Smoke Alarm with Matter over Thread not working

I bought the Sensereo MS-1 Smoke Alarm with Matter over Thread

. Unfortunately I can’t get the device registered. Either I get a timeout or an error that a Thread Boarder Router is missing (which is not the case and I tried it just in one meter distance of the TBR). I have several Matter over Thread devices already which are working without an Issue. Are smoke alarms maybe not supported by Home Assistant Matter integration? Tried with two devices.

Is there any way I can get some details logs on what went wrong. Eg.: Does it fail on in the App already to connect to the device or for the device to connect to the Thread network…

Hi,

Could you please confirm the exact Thread dongle model you are using?
Also, it would be helpful if you could provide the Matter Server logs from when this device was added.

The logs can be accessed via:
Settings → Add-ons → Matter Server → Log.

I’m using the Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle with the OpenThread RCP firmware flashed.
I checked the Matter server logs and there is nothing extra logged while pairing (even with debugs logs enabled).
Could it be an issue with the Home Assistant Android App?
I updated all to latest versions, still same issue.
Controlling devices with Matter over Thread works still without issues.

I am a Samsung smartphone user and have experienced similar connection issues before. In my case, using the Matter Server in Add-ons helped resolve the problem.

Here is a tutorial describing the connection process. You can try to follow the steps and see if it helps you connect your devices:

I got it now finally working. I had to sync the Thread credentials again in the Android Companion App (under Settings → Troubleshooting). Same issue was on my wife’s Android phone. The App should be improved to suggest this fix instead of the wrong error that a Thread Border Router is required.

Can i change the Headline somehow? It is a general issue with the companion App not related to Sensereo.
