Hi all,
I am totally blind and have been using Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi for a couple years now. I would like to add some hardware sensors for things like temperature/humidity, light levels, door/window, etc. I have a MultiSensor 6, but I find it isn’t all that accurate. The trouble is, being blind, constructing my own sensors isn’t all that easy. I’m technical, so I could probably figure out how to hook things up on a breadboard, but that doesn’t really work for small sensors. So, my question is:
Does anyone know of a range of sensors based on a small micro controller like a Wemo D2 or similar that is already assembled? Aside from that, does anyone know of a line of small sensors that is modular? Something I could just plug into a header on a D2 or something similar?
I also need an enclosure for these sensors. I have access to a 3d printer, but would need to know the best case to use.
I’m in Toronto. Is there any helpful hardware hacker in the area who could help me build some things? I would be happy to pay for parts.
I have done lots of experimenting with the Wemos, but most of the standard addon sensors are quite inaccurate (like the DHT11). What is the type of data you want to have? Is it temperature?
For door sensors I can highly recommend the Neo Cool am Zwave sensors. I have installed a few of them and they have never failed and always run instantaneously.
