Have an Ecowitt gateway 1100 that holds several temp/humidity sensors and a couple of leak detectors. The “issue” I am having is that I cannot place its separate entities in an area as obviously the device is in a fixed location inside the house and its remote sensors are spread across the house and outside locations. Is there anyway or maybe in future planning to be able to assign the different entities as area instead of only for the parent device?
Not using areas for anything my self, but can you use groups for this? One entity can be a member of several groups.
If you click on the entity, you can set areas for each of the entities separately
Use device area (xxxxx)
You can change the device area in the device settings
It doesn’t seem to work that way for this device with separate entities…please note it adds the parent device not the separate temperature 6 entity
You should be able to click on each entity to view the entity details. From there, click the gear icon at the top right, and there should be an option at the bottom, just uncheck “Use device area” and set the area for that entity.
Hi,
I’m new to HA, and today I’ve been doing exactly the same here… I’m trying to set up multiple Ecowitt hygrometers in different rooms/areas, which are all paired to a GW1100 gateway.
All of the entities have arrived in HA correctly.
When I set the area for any child entity for any hygrometer on the GW1100, it sets all of the other child entities for different hygrometer to the same area.
I get the same behaviour if the “Use device area” is checked or not. I have also noticed that if I uncheck it, opening the configuration page again, it automatically becomes checked again.
I’m running latest version of HA core 2023.11.2, although it was the same on recent versions over the past month.
Cheers, Chris
Thanks that worked…guess I totally misunderstood that setting and never even thought switching it off. Thanks again!!!
I’ve been going in circles with this. Restart HA and it’s now working as expected
