Set external temperature sensor for Plugwise Anna

Hello all!

I will explain the use case: Let’s say I have my thermostat in living room and set to the 19 °C, it works fine during the day, then I go to sleep to the bedroom on another floor, wake up in the morning and find out that temp in the room is 18 °C. The bedroom radiator valve is 100% open, but it is cold: the main thermostat is not heating because it targets its own sensor which measures the temperature in the living room and this temperature is higher, so it is idle.

So Is it actually possible to set external temperature sensor in Plugwise Anna via HA (or not HA)? I know that Plugwise has other products for this like Adam, etc. but should not it be possible programmatically? It sounds simple and possible on even radiator TVRs.

In HA you could create an Automation that increases the setpoint of the Anna based on the temperature of another sensor (in the bedroom).

But, I wonder what it is you really want to achieve? Do you want to heat the living room during the day and the bedroom during the night? Or maybe something completely different

Exactly. And I have different level of insulation in rooms, bedroom is in general colder, so when the thermostat thinks it is 19 °C and switches heating off, it is cold in bedroom. No matter if bedroom radiator valve fully open, it is cold, because the main thermostat is not heating.

So you want to stop the heating in the livingroom at night and instead heat the bedroom?

You can do that via HA and automations. Also you should have some method to stop hot water flowing to the livingroom-radiators during the night.

Could be something like this: SILVERCREST® Radiatorthermostaat online kopen | LIDL
Just set the timeschedule for when the radiator should be allowed to heat. And no connection to HA required.

Yea, HA automation is an option, but it will constantly play with the thermostat target temperature to keep it close to the bedroom temperature (something similar to what Better Thermostat does). But from the thermostat point of view, it is kind of strange, and I am not sure that it will be as affective as the Anna’s default heating algorithm based on internal sensor. What do you think?

Yes, it’s a crude method to get what you want, indeed.

The alternative can be to buy an Adam HA and some other parts: Lisa/Jip and Tom/Floors and implement a truly multi-room climate control system.
