I have several GoControl TBZ48 Z-Wave thermostat (which I’m considering replacing due to lack of support and hostile service reps) and I want to set automations to change the temperature during the day. This thermostat has a minimal range of 3° between the heating temp and cooling temp. When I used my old ISY-994i to control it, I could specify the heating temp and cooling temp. For example, if I want to cool to 72° during the summer, I’d set the cooling temp to 72° and the heating temp would have to be 75° or above.
I’ve been using this thread as a guide for setting up my first automation. (Thanks, @akajester!) I notice when I pick the climate.control service, I can set one temp, instead of a high or low.
I’m activating it at a specific time. Does HA keep track of this and the current temp to keep the temperature on that thermostat at the temp I specify? If so, I’m glad to have something that smart! Or should I be doing something different to set the heating temp max and the cooling temp minimum?
I also noticed a number of other modes I could control - which is MUCH more than what I could handle with my old hub. The thermostat does things like turn on aux heat automatically if it’s trying to heat the house more than 3°. Does HA override that or does it allow the thermostat to handle things like that as it needs to?
I think the overall issue I’m trying to understand is, if I set a temperature at a specific time, does HA just set the temp, or does it act as a thermostat as well, or does it just set the specific settings I change?
