Looking on the best way / practices to set my Amazon Dots/Echos up with Alexa around the house BUT to keep kids accounts separate / spotify / similar
Gear: HAOS, Nabu Casa, and have various Echo’s and Dot’s around the house,
Accounts: 4 family members with 2x Amazon Prime accounts 4x Spotify accounts.
Dilemma: How to setup the Echo’s / Dot’s in the kids room (and around the house) so they are connected to their own Spotify, BUT the devices are still accessible on Home Assistant. Do I use my Prime account or Wife’s? Concerned about Amazon Prime account everywhere and linked to my Spotify account and have them all playing their music and blocking me out (and it suggesting Taylor Swift over Pearl Jam;). But I still want the ability for HA to send notifications to all Devices throughout the house.
Is there a way to do this somehow within Amazon/Alexa or the device? Or HA?
In all seriousness: I have been fighting with the same issue. You can only link one Spotify account to a Spotify skill, for which you need to have a separate user on Alexa. You can switch the users on the device, but each user can only access their own skills. This means if you want to control your smart home with every user you need to have the Home Assistant/Nabu Casa skill set up for each user.
I don’t like to maintain that, so I switch the user if I want to listen to music and switch it back afterwards to control my home (my wife mainly listens to music).
You can always send notifications (through Alexa Media Player), no matter which user is active.
Google solves this much better, unfortunately Amazon has difficulties to handle this. My kid is getting to the age where he starts to talk to Alexa, so I will have the same issue again very soon…
