Shelly 1 Mini Gen 3 Vs Shelly Plus 1

Hi there,

A month in with Home Assistant and I’m building up my confidence…

I’d like to control my bathroom extractor fans better in a utility room and in a bathroom. We don’t normally have the fans coming on every time the lights are on. I’d like to use the Shelly BLU H&T as a humidity sensor and it also has a switch. So my use case would be that if humidity increased or if someone pushed the button, then the fan would come on for a certain amount of time. Another example is in the utility room when the lights are off but humidity levels are high due to the clothes drier - so I’d like to automatically control the fan.

I couldn’t get my head round the difference between the Shelly 1 Mini Gen3 Vs Shelly Plus. I’d like to fit this behind the isolator switch. Ampage levels will be low as it is a simple fan. Both product pages talk about being able to control fans. Gen3 as a newer product might be better for future proofing.

I’ve seen some people doing similar projects struggle with LED lights glowing as a result. I definitely want to avoid that. The bathroom has dimmable LEDs. But considering my use cases above I think I can avoid connecting to the lighting circuit ie as a switch input.

Any pointers appreciated!

Shelly1 Mini Gen3 can be accessed, controlled and monitored remotely from any place where the User has internet connectivity, as long as the device is connected to a Wi-Fi router and the Internet.

Supposely gen3 is harder to reprogram it to esphome…
And, there’s also “PM” version, which can measure power.

I did actually mean the “Shelly Plus 1” as that was the first product I came across from Shelly which specifically mentioned controlling extractor fans.

Well, in that case the difference is size above all. Mini is … well, really mini… you can really squeeze it just about anywhere.
Shelly 1 mini gen3 also has esp32c inside, while shelly 1 has esp8266 almost certainly.
