Shelly best practices with IP settings

Recently had a HA break down. One of my lights uses the shelly i3 + shelly rgbw. It was controlled through the HA so no light was there. This is when i realized that shelly can communicate directly with each other via IP. I have set a static IP for them through the router but now thinking that i could just keep the static assignment on the router but configure shelly’s to manual IPs on themselves. That way if DHCP goes down i will still have light. If i have to reconfigure shellys - i could still have them on the same IP via DHCP. Any other tips and tricks for a failover system?
