Since a few months I’ve installed a Shelly Plus1 Relay so I can remotely open and close my garage door and also see if the door is open or closed (magnet switch, connected to the Shelly).
Since installation, I’ve experienced three times that the garage door opens by itself. There is no automation for this. Also Node-red and the button in HA are not activating anything. Only thing I can see in HA on the Shelly entities, is that they become unavailable, then straight away available again but also opening the garage door.
One time when it happened I was at home. I noticed all the lights going off and on, and then I heard the garage door opening.
I checked HA logbooks but no errors or warnings were found.
Anyone an idea what could cause this glitch in the system? Or anyone an idea how to troubleshoot this?
I live in the Netherlands and we almost never have power loss. Also all other equipment, like computers and the server where HA is installed, keeps running. So I think the problem must be in HA. It is weird that it is affecting Zigbee and WiFi devices.
And what settings do you have for power-on behavior? I set all of mine to keep the same state they had before they lost power. Even if you dopn’t think that is the cause, I would suggest you set it as I did.
I didnt have a problem with my garage door opening sometimes but it turned out that in the Shelley app on the main defauly dashboard The button for opening the garage door was easy to access and when the phone was awake and in my pocket it would get pressed…! I Just changed the UI so you have to tap on something else first to get to the garage door button…
Modern electricity networks use devices called reclosers which detect transient faults, and turn power back on again automatically. Consumers see these as short outages, typically of a few seconds duration.
Such short outages have different impacts on different types of equipment - many desktop and server PSU might have enough smoothing capacitor energy to “ride out” the short outage, where as smaller devices with very much smaller PSU will hard-restart.
I did not know that! The Shelly relay was set on switch on after power loss. I’ve changed it to stay at previous state. Hopefully this will solve the problem!
