I setup some zones and added the family devices (all iOS devices running the HA iOS app) to Home Assistant.
Even though I’ve set up zones for specific places when members of my family are at those places (in specific zones) it shows them as ‘away’ rather than the name of the zone they’re in.
(When I’ve driven to the other zones I’ve setup HA has shown notifications, so I know the zones are working OK with our devices).
How do I setup Home Assistant to show the place names (zones) when people are there?
It should work like that per default if you set up the zones in your config and have an device_tracker that reports the gps location.
Did you specify the zones in your config with enough radius?
What does the status page tell you about your device tracker? (The < > under developer tools in the left sidebar). Is the latitude/longitude correct, what’s the state saying?
Some zones I’m testing have a radius of 200, which should be enough?
If I look at the status page it shows devices that are home with source_type as router (as I have my router setup as a device tracker as well as the iOS app), & shows longitude, latitude etc.
But when (for example) my wife’s at work (which I setup as a zone) it says
source_type: null
I’m only using the HA iOS app on each device (not OwnTracks, MQTT or anything else). That should work OK shouldn’t it? Or do I need be using something else alongside the iOS app?
I don’t have an iphone, and have no idea how the iOS app reports the location, sorry.
It sounds like isn’t working as it should though. I would probably disable all the other device_tracker platforms until I got iOS working, just to be certain where I get my location from.
Sounds like this may be a question for the iOS category.
Yeah good idea, I’ll disable the router as a device tracker & see how it works then.
And if I still have trouble I’ll ask in the iOS category (originally I wasn’t sure if it was something I was doing wrong with location tracking generally).
