Here in Belgium and the rest of Europe, we are currently experiencing a serious drought. I once read about showerloop, a project where you collect, clean and reuse the hot water of your shower. So, what better time than now to pick this up again?
I now released a newer version of the showerloop which is girlfriend/wife approved: it looks like a normal shower (at least it will when it is built-in) but thanks to an ESP32 microcontroller, some water flow sensors, electric valves, filters, a pump and some PVC tubing one will not see that the shower in facts reuses it’s water, thus saving water and a lot of energy!
Once you start a shower, the esp32 publishes statistics about your shower each minute to an mqtt broker of your choice. These statistics include the amount of water saved, the amount of time you showered, average temperature… . So, it is also ready for all the home assistant enthousiasts out there!
