SICK TO DEATH of TUYA.....alternatives that work?

Sick of the mess that is Tuya integrations…needing to use the IoT platform, etc…looking for bulbs and switches that work well with HA and Alexa and DO NOT have anything to do with Tuya…

Anyone?

For which country?

I do not use smart bulbs, just smart switches. I prefer Shelly.

US. Currently use some smart bulbs and switches. What shelly devices do you use?

Shelly plugs (4), door/window sensors (2), flood (3), gas sensor (1), motion (2). I currently use belkin wemo light switches but I would not recommend them - I’m getting ready to replace them with Shelly dimmers

Shelly easy to set up and work with both HA and Alexa?

I don’t use Alexa.

I guess you mean Tuya WiFi based devices?

I totally agree with you. Those are a real PIA. I got rid of all of them I have ever bought except for one single 2-way switch because I have not managed to get an alternative for it. Still having to beg Tuya to extend my trial every six month to be able to keep that switch working is simply ridiculous!

I made the move and switched all of my Tuya WiFi based devices to Zigbee a while ago and I am not looking back anymore. Besides of real local access with no foreign cloud involved Zigbee works reliable and there are many choices for Zigbee based IoT products out there.

Don’t worry about Tuya Zigbee based devices: You don’t need a Tuya Zigbee gateway but most of them connect to nearly any Zigbee coordinator available on the market. Also their Zigbee based devices do not depend on any foreign cloud but those are pure locally controlled.

For a list of Zigbee devices compatible with Zigbee2MQTT and/or ZHA take a look HERE.

Also, you can re-flash Shelly’s with ESPHome firmware.

With ESPHome you can re-program them in any way you like (even as stand-alome).

Not that I am a fan on Tuya, but I have one, and so far hasn’t caused me any issues.
But then again, from the beginning, I set up Tuya-Local.

Running flawless for 1.5 years now…

Yes, sure. So did I. Nevertheless I have to login to my Tuya developer account at least every six month to extend my trial period

We have power and also internet blackouts here from time to time which forces me most of the time to reaquire a new key for my single Tuya WiFi based switch remained to set it up once again. What a hazzle!

I also have local tuya but it has dropped a couple of my devices and I can’t seem to get them back…just annoying as hell
