Photo shows on profile, but not in sidebar. How to fix this?

I know the topic is old, but I have the same situation. From the beginning (two years ago) I only see letters. I would really like to see the image of the active user like in the badges or as seen in the rest of the HA UI.
Any idea how to force this?
Got it working. The solution was finally that I deleted all users and persons and recreated them. It was important to set the option “Allow person to login”… I believe that this option did not exist when I created my users. But that was years ago.
After knowing what the problem was, I also understand why it happened occasionally, but almost nobody had an answer.
