In an effort top improve my home environment, I would like to see if there is a way to build a single frontend in HA to be displayed on a tablet (in each room) whereby I would be able to control media player (such as Kodi, Jellyfin and/others players).
I would be happy with the ability to have within HA frontend one of these player icon that would allow me to invoke the homepage/frontend of the music player.
Ie.
by clicking on a Jellyfin icon on HA front end on the local room tablet.
This would bring up the jellyfin client homepage (or Playlist button) and i could select and play the playlist in that room speakers (most rooms echo and living room, mediaroom and outdoor dining area on local sound system)
This is exactly what HA is for and everything you mention is possible. The question is however very broad, and the first step for you would be to just set up a running instance of HA and get familiar with it, perhaps get it to control a single smart bulb and build a dashboard for it.
I am trying to play with new dashboard to eventually add to the first tablet.
I currently control my lights my hvac, my media and geofencing (simple stuff for all except me) .
To be more specific
option 1:
have an icon call jets use jellyfin, by clicking this icon you open the jellyfing client dashboard and this open the jellyfin dashboard (and then one would navigate jellyfin as if they were in the jellyfin application. In this case the jellyfin application would play on th local speakers.
Option 2: (preferred)
in the HA dashboard i have a direct button to the jellyfin playlist (most likely Music) and then this will list all the available playlists.
I hope this will clarify my objective
Any alternative recommendations are welcomed.
If this as you say is possible how would i go about to do this?
I managed to install and load my music library into music assistant. However i still cannot get that music from one client (a laptop) to play music on echo or a second client to play via my stereo HTPC
I have been trying to use media played and music assistant to no avail.
In media player i manage to play from my jellyfin library. However i always play music via playlists. Media player does not load jellyfin playlists
Music assistant on the other hand does load my jellyfin library but i cannot get to add any player that would play via the attached echo or if i use one of my htpc on the speakers or amp attached to those HTPCs
Why spend resources on 2 or more music player integration.? but coordinate the development of one awesome integration that would play from any media player on the pc to any attached sound system
I presume that using the default sound delivery of the pc would be a simple and more elegant solution ( Even from a HA installation in my car via my car audio system).
As long as HA can integrate with a mediasource as above , spotify or others HA only has to act as go between the source and the speakers
How can we all raise awareness to HA about this requirement
