I ordered a Pi 4B with Hifiberry DAC+, hoping to be able to use it as an audio player and HA server, as well as a general 64-bit Ubuntu server for some hobby web site projects.
However, it seems that the good audio players for raspberries are all full OSes: piCoreplayer, HifiBerryOS, etc
Ideally I would run Ubuntu 18 or 19 64-bit on it and also be able to stream audio from my phone to the Pi, similar to how Google Cast works. I can only find some fairly low level stuff on audio for ubuntu, listening to a TCP port for example, and NAS.
I don’t even need multi-room audio. Is there a way to do this?
Edit: Looks like I can simply use the VLC media player integration for this. Can I then also stream Youtube and Apple Music from my phone over WiFi? Guess I’ll find out when the new SD card arrives
