Skyconnect: Zigbee or (not AND) matter?

Hi,
sorry for the ‘noob’ question and if this is posted before (did not find the answer). I Just purchased a Skyconnect dongle as my installation was corrupt (no backups). Some Matter devices are on their way.

When installing: am I correct that I have to choose If the dongle acts as a Zigbee device or a matter device? So not both?

In that case, I think it is best to keep my conbee II as Zigbee router and the skyconnect as a future Matter router?

Thanks for the input.

So the SkyConnect is a zigbee, or thread, co-ordinator. Not a matter dongle. Matter is the standard, thread is one of the communication protocols available within the standard (WiFi and ethernet are the others).

So, just because a device is matter, doesn’t necessarily mean it would work with the Skyconnect in thread mode.

However, to answer your question practically - yes, you should choose either zigbee or thread when you commission the SkyConnect as the multipan option didn’t really work out.
